Our 5 advocacy priorities help Texans with I/DD live in and contribute to their communities.

INDEPENDENCE

Accessible Transportation

Expanding and improving transportation options that are accessible for individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles, visual and auditory aids, and para-transit services.

HCBS Funding

Increasing funding and resources for home and community-Based Services (HBCS) to support independent living.

Integrated Employment

Promoting competitive and integrated employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities and support services to help individuals with disabilities succeed in the workplace.

EDUCATION

Inclusive Education Funding

Ensuring that funding models for public education adequately support the needs of students with disabilities.

Educational Experience

Implementing technology solutions, such as cameras in classrooms, and restricting harmful restraints to enhance the safety and educational experience of student with disabilities.

PROTECTION

Protection from Abuse and Neglect

Expanding safeguards and monitoring to protect individuals with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Anti-Discrimination Policy

Strengthening anti-discrimination policies to protect individuals with disabilities in education, employment and community settings.

Emergency Preparedness

Developing and implementing emergency preparedness plans specifically tailored to individuals with disabilities, including backup power solutions and evacuation support.

Justice System Reforms

Promoting the rights of individuals with disabilities in the criminal justice system, including law enforcement training, providing access to trained advocated and legal assistance, and accommodations for cognitive and communication needs.
